This course will teach practical strategies that first provide language and conversational learning opportunities for the earliest communicators. Communicators at the Engagement level often have limited  attention and focus, can be infant and toddler age, can have access issues, may be on the autism spectrum.  First learn “Making Language Visible Strategies” for young infants and toddlers as well as older students who are still at the earliest levels of engagement.  Next learn how to engage students in all activities using interactive social language for participation in the classroom , in play, and/or therapy activities with light tech options and iPads.Implementation strategies and adaptations will be discussed through case examples including videos of students will highlight this presentation.

This course will teach practical strategies specifically for Rett Syndrome.This is the first part of the two part lecture series .  In the first part the focus will be on communication and conversation skills using the Integrated Model of Communication. Participants we learning important strategies for teaching communication skills , understanding access, sensory regulation and finally how to teach conversational skills, expand on those skills and direct instructional ideas. This is for those who are starting out with communication for the students or children and for those who have systems in place but need more instructional ideas.

This session will specifically address Rett Syndrome.  Once students have had success with communicating it is important that they learn skills to become generative communicators.Strategies for independent book exploration including electronic libraries, adaptations. and switch access will be discussed. Story retelling strategies and participation strategies to jump start students who are at beginning literacy levels will be shared.  Finally,  using a four block model and the Integrated Model of Communication you will learn strategies for addressing reading, writing and word skills that are necessary to take students to the next level.  Implementation strategies and adaptations will be discussed through case examples including videos of students will highlight this presentation.

 

Teach Me AAC Series!

Based on the Integrated Model of Communication© Instruction students learn social, literacy and language skills.• For Students learning AAC this model improves their skills through interactive lessons and books. The lessons can be taught tochildren using a variety of communication systems including those developed by Pati King-DeBaun but not limited to only her communication system.• For Instructors learn how to teach AAC with instructional webinars, scripted lessons, and materials that are ready to use. Instructors can pick and chose what and when they teach lessons and how they deliver the material. All courses available for .5 hours CEU Credit These courses are a year worth of lessons.  In the first AAC course there is 23 sessions and over 150 lessons.  In the Teach Me AAC for CLL for Rett there are 36 sessions with over 250 lessons!
